"Distant Forest" by Tennessee based psych rock band Connor Kelly & The Time Warp feels unbound by modern conventions. Listening to the gothic walls of sound, the heavy metal blues rock tones, the 70's forged psychedelic smoke signals and I felt the sonic cinema of a spaghetti space western. The bending, burning Moog synthesizer sound, the screaming Floyd-ian guitar tones and shifting bottom end build a twisting framework for their soulful rock vocal. What sets this apart from some bands that might seem to mimic classic sounds is the feral screaming and the purity of sound. Connor Kelly & The Time Warp feel fresh here, the tones don't feel rehashed but, instead, birthed from the rock gods.
